Technical Options
| (1) Use the Computer |
Get a pair of headphones and a microphone for your computer,
install a soft-dialler and get connected. A tested soft-dialler program is available for download.
However you can download any SIP compatible program. Some of them can be used with an USB phone.
| (2) Get a Real phone |
The most common option is to install a phone. However this requires additional equipment.
A spare network port on the ADSL or Cable modem/router
| If you do not have a spare network port, you can install a netwrok switch which will cost approximately $50 (in Australia). |
Analogue Telephone Adopter (ATA) with a network cable
| Telcotel can supply this for $120 including delivery, configured and ready to use in Australia and Sri Lanka.
Alternatively you can purchase your own. Telcotel currently uses Linksys PAP2T. |
A separate phone which will be plugged into the ATA |
You are billed per second
Calls to Sri Lanka are billed per second. Hence you will be charged exactly for
the number of seconds you speak. Not by the minute.
You don't pay any joining fees or be locked into a contract
The Account is free to obtain and you do not have to sign a contract. However, you will be charged the monthly fee for a DID phone even if the service is not used.
Re-charge
your account on-line, through the call center or setup an auto
top-up rule
You can either recharge your account using a nominated credit card yourself
on-line or by calling the Call Center. You can also set-up an auto
top-up rule so that your account is recharged by a specific amount every time
the balance drops below a specific value. This means you don't have
to worry about paying phone bills or buying phone cards. Bpay is also accepted within Australia.
See
detailed Call Records on-line
You can see your call records on-line by accessing the call ceylon website.
You can see each call you take, the number, time, duration and how much you were
charged.
You
can specify a monthly spend limit
If you want, your top-up rule can be setup in a way that your Credit Card will be charged on
a specific date every month by a specified amount. This means you wont overspend
on calls.
